Servamus Properties | Vanwyksdorp & Surrounds
By
Wendi Skowronek
As winter slowly starts settling over the Klein Karoo, the landscape around Vanwyksdorp has transformed once again. After the recent rains and dramatic flooding throughout the region, the veld is alive, the rivers are flowing beautifully, and the countryside has taken on that rare lush green flush that reminds us all why this area is so special.
The Groot River has certainly made its presence known this season. While the floods brought challenges to many farms and access roads, they also highlighted the incredible resilience and natural beauty of the Klein Karoo. Water remains one of our greatest assets in this region, and after years of drought concerns, it is truly wonderful to see dams filling, rivers running, and the land breathing again.
For buyers looking for lifestyle properties, smallholdings, off-grid opportunities, or investment farms, there has honestly never been a more exciting time to consider Vanwyksdorp and surrounds.

This is the type of property people dream about when they imagine escaping city life and creating a self-sustainable homestead in the Karoo.
Water from the river may legally be drawn for domestic use, and further commercial applications can be made through the relevant authorities if required.
MARKET INSIGHT | MAY 2026
The Vanwyksdorp and Kannaland property market continues to move steadily, although buyers remain price-conscious and selective.
We are currently seeing:
- Increased interest in lifestyle farms and off-grid properties
- More buyers relocating permanently from larger cities
- Strong demand for properties with reliable water sources
- Buyers prioritising solar, water security, and self-sustainability
- Continued interest from retirees and semigration buyers
One thing remains extremely important in the current market: correct pricing from the start. Properties that are realistically priced continue to attract the strongest attention and achieve the best results.
LIFE IN THE KLEIN KAROO
There is something deeply grounding about winter in the Klein Karoo.
The mornings become crisp and still. Smoke rises from fireplaces across the valley. Rivers trickle quietly through the veld, and the mountains surrounding Vanwyksdorp seem to glow gold in the late afternoon light.
It is a slower rhythm of life — one that many people are searching for today.
Whether you are looking for a peaceful retirement destination, a working farm, a lifestyle smallholding, or simply a place where you can reconnect with nature, Vanwyksdorp continues to offer something increasingly rare: space, community, safety, and simplicity.
SEASONAL RECIPE

- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 350ml lukewarm water
